Why In-Home Dog Sitting Beats Boarding

I’m Daniel Gillespie. I’ve lived in Las Vegas for 38 years and I look after dogs the way I’d want someone to look after mine. That means your dog stays in the house they know, eats at the times they expect, and walks the route they already like.

Boarding facilities work for some dogs. But a kennel is a new building full of unfamiliar animals, and for an anxious dog, an older dog, or a dog on medication, that change is the hardest part of your trip. Staying home removes it entirely.

You also get the house watched while I’m there. Mail collected, lights and blinds normal, and any problem spotted while you’re away instead of discovered when you land.

What Dog Sitting Includes

Every booking is built around your dog’s actual routine rather than a fixed package. These are the things that come up most.

Daily care and feeding

Meals on their normal schedule, fresh water, treats if you allow them, and medication given on time if your dog needs it.

Walks and yard time

Proper walks at sensible hours. In Las Vegas summer that means early morning and after sunset, because pavement temperature matters more than the air temperature.

Overnight stays

For dogs that shouldn’t be alone at night, or any trip longer than a couple of days. Someone is actually in the house rather than dropping in.

Updates while you’re away

Photos and a short note so you know how the day went. You shouldn’t have to chase someone for an update about your own dog.

The house, not just the dog

Mail and packages brought in, plants watered, bins out, and a walkthrough each visit so a leak or a failed AC unit gets caught early.

Vet runs and supply runs

If something goes wrong I can get your dog to the vet, and if the food runs out mid-trip I’ll replace it rather than switching them onto something else.

What a Dog Sitter Costs in Las Vegas

Every booking is quoted personally. Send your dates through the contact form and I’ll call you back with a quote for your dog.

The quote comes down to a few things: whether I stay overnight or visit, how long the trip is, how many dogs there are, and whether anyone needs medication. Longer bookings usually work out better per day than a single night, so it’s worth giving me your real dates.

For a fuller breakdown see house sitting and pet sitting costs in Las Vegas, or what a dog walker costs if walks are all you need. If you’re weighing up the options, in-home sitting compared with overnight sitting and boarding covers the trade-offs honestly.

Which Service Do You Actually Need?

Dog sitting overlaps with a few other things I do, and the right one depends on why your dog needs cover.

  • You’re travelling and the dog stays home. That’s dog sitting, this page. Overnight if the trip is more than a day or two.
  • You’re at work long hours. That’s pet day care, built around shifts rather than trips.
  • Your dog just needs exercise. That’s dog walking in Las Vegas, booked as single walks or a regular slot.
  • You have cats, or a mix of animals. See cat sitting or pet sitting in Las Vegas.
  • You’re in Henderson. See pet sitting in Henderson.
  • The house matters as much as the pets. See house sitting, where the property tasks stop being incidental.

Common Questions

How much does a dog sitter cost in Las Vegas?

Every booking is quoted personally, because it depends on whether you need overnight presence or daily visits, how long the trip is and how many dogs there are. Send your dates through the contact form and I will call you back with a quote. Longer bookings generally work out better per day than one night on its own.

Is a dog sitter better than boarding?

For one easy, sociable dog, boarding is often cheaper per night and perfectly fine. A sitter usually wins once you have more than one dog, since boarding tends to charge per animal, or if your dog is anxious, elderly, or on medication. You also get the house occupied and watched at the same time.

Do you stay overnight with the dog?

Yes, overnight stays are available and they’re usually the right choice for any trip longer than a couple of days, or for a dog that shouldn’t be left alone at night. If daily visits are enough for your dog, that works too and costs less.

Can you give my dog medication?

Yes. Pills, drops and anything on a fixed schedule are fine, and we’ll go through exactly what your dog takes and when at the meet and greet before the booking. If something looks wrong while you’re away, I can get your dog to your vet.

Which areas of Las Vegas do you cover?

Las Vegas, Henderson and Summerlin, including The Ridges, Ascaya and MacDonald Highlands. If you’re just outside that area, get in touch anyway, because it’s often still workable.

Do we meet before the booking?

Always, and it’s free. We go over your dog’s routine, feeding, walks, any medication and how they behave with someone new. It also means your dog has met me before the first day you’re away, which makes a real difference.

Should I tip a dog sitter?

It’s optional and never expected here, since I set my own rates and there’s no company taking a cut. If you want the normal amounts anyway, see how much to tip a pet sitter.
